The 2023 County Efficiency Indicators were unveiled yesterday by the Department of Education during the West Virginia Board of Education meeting in Charleston.
As a pivotal component of the West Virginia Accountability System, the state department conducts an annual assessment to ascertain the approval status of each county. According to the latest findings, 25 counties have successfully met the requirements of all 11 identified indicators of efficiency, with 16 of them achieving this feat for two consecutive years. The report also highlights areas where districts fell short of standards, as documented on the West Virginia Balanced Scorecard. Specifically, attendance and math achievement have emerged as focal points due to the number of counties not meeting the required benchmarks. The review also identified five districts in need of substantial support, given their multiple areas falling below the established standards.
