The state Board of Education received the 2023 Public School Assessment Results during their meeting in Charleston today. The data indicates that in English language arts (ELA), 44 percent of West Virginia students demonstrated proficiency. This reflects a 2 percent increase compared to the previous year. In the subject of math, 35 percent of students were proficient, which is a 2 percent increase from the 33 percent proficiency rate in 2022. Additionally, there was a 1 percent increase in science proficiency, with 29 percent of students being proficient in 2023, up from 28 percent in 2022.
