The WV Legislature and Governor Jim Justice has approved new rules to address student's disruptive behavior in the classroom. This legislation will give new authority to teachers and other school personnel when disciplining students. The law allows students in grades 6-12 that behaves in a manner that obstructs the teaching or learning process of others in the classroom to be excluded. These new rules mandate the minimum duration of exclusion for certain behaviors; requires principal to communicate with teacher within 24 hours about the exclusion for certain behaviors, and provides consequences for student removed for certain behaviors three times in one month.
